Working with CTLI: Project development

Overview

This guide is your key to unlocking the project development process at the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI) at Lethbridge Polytechnic. We’ve crafted a framework that encourages subject matter experts and instructional designers to work collaboratively, offering a blueprint to enhance both course design and learner engagement.

Team

What CTLI provides

No matter what project you want to create, CTLI will support you (at varying levels) by providing:

  • Course design support
  • Pedagogical expertise
  • Design team support
  • Tech & AI support

What do we create?

CTLI is involved in a variety of projects—such as academic courses, non-academic courses, micro-credentials, and facilitations.

Take a look at a sample collection to get a taste of what we could help you create.

Project development levels

Each project is unique and, depending on your needs, CTLI will provide you with the necessary guidance at one of three levels.

Levels of Project Support

One-off consultations for instructors

Maybe you don’t have a full project or maybe you just have a wondering or need some advice. If that is the case, you can request a consultation with an LXD or ID. Common topics we cover, but are not limited to, are:

  • Canvas LMS
  • Accessibility
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Generative AI
  • Course delivery
  • Online engagement
  • Course alignment

View our one-off consult with CTLI resource for more information.

ID & SME roles

The subject matter expert (SME) is an integral part of the design team.

Their role is to provide:

  • content on schedule
  • subject matter expertise
  • regular communication with the ID
  • project management (depending on level of support)

The instructional designer (ID) facilitates the design process from start to finish and provides pedagogical expertise.

Depending on the level of project development, IDs will provide:

  • project management
  • outcome development
  • curriculum alignment
  • assessment design
  • user experience design
  • accessibility/UDL support
  • tech/AI integration
  • collaborative context

If you are a project sponsor or SME, find more information about your role and our process in our CTLI sponsor/SME orientation guide.
